Well done the German football fans
Let’s try that again....

Well done German football fans. Much as we like to moan about how things are with TV dominating schedules and fans being taken advantage of, , I suspect nothing will change in this country until fans stop going to matches in protest....

German football is good. The FA copied there philophsy for their DNa. Plan. Cheap, great food and beer as well.

Let's hope Red Bull haven't fucked it up.

The English Premiership is just massive money laundry venture
In my humble.

Re: Well done the German football fans
their youth set-up is second to none. The failure at Euro 2000 was the kick up the arse they needed.

having said that, they are very focused on scouting over here at the moment. fella i know has been asked by Bayern to scout youth for them.

Mr J Sancho has started a trend.

I agree German fans seem to know better than We Englanders.

They soon realised Reece Oxford wasn't up to much.

Agreed, this season it is exciting.

Not so much the others in recent seasons.

Re: Well done the German football fans
Every time you've said Bayern dominate i've agreed with you and said the CL spots over there are much more competitive.

Liverpool are dominating this season.

Their title race is far from boring this season.

Lee Trundle 12:57 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
I wouldn't even say Dortmund dominate.

Bayern normally easily win the league by 10-20 points each season.

The title race over there is rarely exciting.

Re: Well done the German football fans
Goose - Liverpool haven't ever "dominated" in the Premier League. This will be their first title for THIRTY YEARS. They last won the title before the Premier League existed.

You're being a little selective, if you don't mind me saying. Since 2011, the PL title has gone to Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, Leicester and, now upcoming, Liverpool.

During the same period, just two clubs have won the German title.

German football does not really do diversity.

Re: Well done the German football fans
Bayern and Dortmund dominate in Germany like City and Liverpool are doing here.
my point was that outside of that domination its been a mixed bag for CL spots - unlike the PL.

if you look at this season then the Bundesliga is way more exciting than the PL. 3 maybe 4 teams in the title race.

Re: Well done the German football fans
Fucking hell goose Bayern bore the shit out of that league, so what if they don't dominate the domestic cups, it's the German LEAGUE that's being discussed the competition that dominates every individual countries football interest.

Even commentators take the piss when showing the league tables there......

Re: Well done the German football fans
I say all of this because I've been working on some book research recently and have had to travel to Germany - so I've spent a few drunken nights in bars with various sets of fans.

They are proud of the 50+1 model, but they know it has only really embedded a firm structure into German football. "Sugar Bull" Leipzig are the recent exception - and that has got them thinking about adpating 50+1.

southbankbornnbred 12:29 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
In fact, the Leipzig model is making many German fans think about the "benefits" of big companies/owners investing in teams.

The 50+1 model is hardly under threat (thankfully), but fans are wary of what it is embedding.

southbankbornnbred 12:27 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
Honestly, speak to German fans - they are getting very bored of Bayern's dominance and Dortmund's position as the only viable threat.

They don't see it the same way as outsiders looking at their 50+1 policy.

Re: Well done the German football fans
Goose - in five out of the last eight seasons, one club has done the double. On one occasion, it was the triple. And on every occasion, bar one, it was Bayern.

goose 12:06 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
i agree, but outside of Bayern there is much more competition for cups & CL.
last 5 years you've had 4 different winners of the cup - 3 of which werent Bayern.

CL qualification off top of my head i can recall Bayern, Dortmund, Bayer, Schalke, Bremen, Leipzeg, Stuffgart, Wolfsburg, Hertha? BMG?

Re: Well done the German football fans
Serie A is going the same way, but without the benefit of fans' ownership.

Juventus are the only genuinely "huge" club at the moment. Even Inter and AC Milan can't compete with them financially.

southbankbornnbred 11:59 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
There's really not a lot of diversity in terms of silverware, Goose.

In eleven seasons since 2002/03, one German side has either done the double or treble. Bayern have won the last seven titles and, in four out of those seven years, Dortmund finished runners-up. The year before that, Dortmund won it.

People are getting excited because the Sugar Bull Gang are having a decent couple of years. But, historically, there's little disputing the oligopoly. Just ask the bookies - they slash the odds on the Budesliga because it is so predictable.

goose 11:39 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
I take your point about Bayern, although this season is a much closer competition.

Outside of Bayern though the CL places have been a real mixture recently, unlike the PL where always the same group in the CL.

southbankbornnbred 11:34 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
The "Fifty plus one" rule in Germany has been great on many levels - but it has also restrained some clubs, don't forget that.

It has hardly added to the diversity of competition in Germany and has solidified a "natural" financial order into German football. Bayern have won SEVEN titles in a row and it is all getting very predicatble in that respect.

But the fans have a much bigger say over how clubs are run and the services they offer.

The Libertine 11:28 Tue Feb 25
Re: Well done the German football fans
In Germany there different rules about ownership than anywhere else, hence the fans have real power there. Any rich guy can not just purchase a club and pour money into it.

Re: Well done the German football fans
No wonder so many English fans travel to Germany every weekend to watch games.
German football is everything English football should be.

From the infrastructure & youth development right through to the cheap tickets and sense of connection between clubs and fans.
